Good Night for a Puppet Show and a Carving Contest!

We’re looking forward to the contest tonight. It’s not too late to carve something and bring it over. We will take entries from 4:30 until it gets dark enough to judge… judging will probably start around 6:30.

Please remember; follow the categories; you can enter up to 3 carvings in separate categories; switching categories is not allowed after judging begins ( about 6:30 ); and it’s all FREE thanks to our wonderful sponsors!

See the poster below and see you tonight!

Time to Carve!

The 25th Bridgehampton Lions Carving Contest will be held at the Bridgehampton Community House this  Monday, October 28th starting @5pm. If you’re not coming for the puppet show then definitely get there well before it’s dark. If your not familiar with the event, there’s no actual carving going on at the event, you have to spend this weekend doing that at home.

Host a carving party the weekend before – bring more entries!

The poster featuring this year’s themes is below.

IMPORTANT CHANGES: We changed things a little again this year… we are going back to a dedicated, all-ages freestyle category called Master Blade. It will be where it used to be, on the left side of the front stairs… or near them. We also decided to only award the Master Blade prizes to people in the category… NOT in other categories. For a couple of years, we were considering Master Blade a “Best In Show” and including all carvings at the event for Master Blade prizes, but now we are going back to it being its own category. So, even if you carved something spectacular with “Terrified Pets” or “13 and Under Freestyle ” in mind, you may want to consider going for the big bucks up on the stage – you have to be in it to win it!

Our spotters will be around to help determine if you qualify for the Master Blade stage. As an extra incentive, and to fill the stage, we will have a special randomly awarded cash prize for all qualifying Master Blade non-winners who braved it to be on stage. So if your pumpkin qualifies to be on stage, you could still win after the top 3 prizes are awarded! Our judges will ultimately decide who qualifies for the special price but if our spotters determine you do, you are in!

Remember, it’s FREE to enter and FREE to see but you can’t win unless you bring a carved pumpkin or squash-like life form. Also, many tend to forget about the categories… if you carve to fit a category you will be way more likely to win… pick your favorite or if you can’t decide carve 3, you can enter one time in up to 3 categories! Sometimes a category has just a few entries so there may be a guaranteed win in your future if you make the effort.

Carving Contest Postponed until Tomorrow – Tue the 25th!

Unfortunately, due to persistent rain and possible thunderstorms for the event we will hold the contest tomorrow – Tuesday, October 25th. Same time and details.

Your pumpkins should hold up an extra day if already carved and, for some, it’s more time to carve or a second chance!

Tips to preserve carvings: Wet down a clean old towel and drape it over your piece, especially over the carved areas. Keep it wet/damp until the event. Another great way to bring a pumpkin back to life is to soak it underwater for several hours. It actually gets stronger on the first soak. I have done this 2-3 times for a week until it starts to rot. Soaking over night in a big bucket or garbage bin is best. Just put some weights on or in it to keep it sumberged.

See you Tuesday evening!

Event Notice!

Great day to stay home and carve pumpkins!

We are keeping an eye on the weather for tomorrow – Monday the 24th. We hope to continue as planned. You can bring your carved pumpkins starting at 5pm, judging will start around dark. Keep an umbrella in the car just in case!

If rain prevents us from holding the event we will hold it the next day, Tuesday the 25th.

If we postpone we won’t know until tomorrow and if that happens we will post a message on this site and at the event grounds… the Bridgehampton Community House.

Hopefully see you tomorrow!
