2012 Pumpkin Carving Contest Canceled!

Sorry everyone, we held out as long as we could but the weather report just got worse so we decided to cancel a little in advance. We assume most would carve today and wanted to stop you before you went too far. If it’s too late, you have a great pumpkin carving for Halloween!

Since Tuesday will still be stormy and Wednesday is Halloween we will just have to skip this unlucky 13th year of the event, spooky!

The Show Must Go On!

The Carving Contest is still on for this Monday at 5pm. We will hold the contest inside the Community House if the weather does not cooperate. If we do go inside candles will not be allowed. We will have a number of battery operated tea candles on hand but please bring your own battery operated light source if you can in case we run out. Since we will probably be inside please plan on containing your entry on a tray or board if it has more then one base. This also allows for easy transport to the stage if you win.

If you need pumpkin carving ideas please browse all the photos of past pumpkin carving contests in our Pumpkin Carving Galleries and visit Not Your Average Jack for more photos from past contests.

Master Blade Trophy

Straight off the workbenches of John Battle and Nico Yektai… the Master Blade Trophy.

the Master Blade category is for the best carvers ( the ones that keep winning the All Ages Freestyle ) and those who think they can beat them. This prize is much more valuable then Money… it’s to get your name on our, soon to be coveted, “Master Blade” trophy. We will post an image of the Master Blade trophy shorty too.

Mystery Category

And the Mystery Category is… Rumpelfrumpkin!

Stay tuned for footage of our brand new “Master Blade” trophy, we will post shortly.

If you would like tips on what to carve for the pumpkin carving contest, scroll down to last year’s posts, there are hints to most of the current categories there.

Carving Hints

Remember the contest is This Monday (10/24) so you should be carving or thinking about carving right now!

There are many new categories this year so we thought we would give out a few hints on the new ones. The judges will make their decision based on creativity, glow factor and how well it fits the category. You could follow the hints or take off on your own translation of the category name… some can be translated in different ways and the judges don’t always go for the obvious. Lots of detail is good but the simplest of ideas will work too. Be creative.

— Compost Zombie – Rotten but not forgotten.

— Mythic Monstrosity – Dragons, Cyclops, Greek Gods, Unsightly Unicorns… the list is endless.

— Frosty the Glow Man – Probably starts with 3…

— Evil Exoskeleton – Bugs, Bugs, Bugs, or something else…

— Freaky Facelift – Plastic surgery with a sense of humor or horror.

— Sports Illuminated – Any sport concept will probably do as long as it glows.

— Cackle & Squawk – Birds, Birds, Birds, or…

— Pablo Picassokin – Think Cubism.

— Candy Barf – Oh no, I think I had too… much… Can… dy…

— See poster below for the other 7

Also, please remember, if you are creating a scene or something hard to set up then it will be hard to take to the winners stand so think ahead and consider a board or base that can be  carried up or home in one piece.

If you need more ideas please browse all the photos of past contests in our Pumpkin Carving Galleries and visit Not Your Average Jack for more photos from past contests.

Good Luck and see you Monday!
